CleanTech – A Revolution in Carbonisation
We are carrying out various projects with a view of revolutionising the carbonisation process technologies that are available. Together with global partners, we are heavily investing in the research and development of two main carbonisation technologies. These technologies are alternatives to today’s typical methods.
Jacobi is proud to be an industry leader when it comes to these R&D projects, which we believe will become commonplace in the industry in the future.
A GreenEco Furnace
Working with a partner we have helped to develop a furnace unit that can give us a good yield of material when used in a cluster formation. Additionally, we are able to collect and utilise the steam generated and to reuse the heat energy from the process in local towns or villages that may not have reliable access to power currently. Alongside generating energy, the tech will allow us to reduce any emissions and further control the environmental impact and global warming potential of the carbonisation production process. We are looking forward to rolling out the technology in the near future with key industry partners and are confident it will be a real game changer.
B Rotary Kiln Carbonisation
At one of our sites in India we have built and installed a completely closed kiln unit that allows us to operate a continuous carbonisation process with full emission control and even heat recovery built into the system, including a boiler for power generation.
C Rain Water Harvesting
This is a system that we have implemented at the Jacobi Carbons production plant in India to collect rainwater for use in the activated carbon production process. As rain falls, the water is collected and is then stored in one of four collection sumps. Overflow water is diverted to an artificial recharge system to an existing open well. Previously, water was transported to the plant, negatively affecting our carbon footprint. Harvesting rainwater this way lessens our negative impact on the planet. By adding to the groundwater we have also helped the local community, who mostly use this water source for their daily activities.
D Green Production
Several of our plants are also looking at more general environmental efficiency improvements. In some areas our plants are switching to natural gas whilst other plants are utilising steam turbine energy, with up to 25% of the energy used to operate coming from this new source. This, combined with other innovations around our plants is helping us to not only save costs, but, more importantly, reduce environmental impact.
